Thanksgiving and my baby is 20!

Yet again it's been a while since I did a real post about our family. I truly thought that once my kids were no longer "little" that I would have more time to myself and do the things that I wanted to do. However, I have found that this is not the case. There are days where I feel like I havent even had a chance to breathe. So right now as I sit in the comforts of my warm home, I thought I'd update our family and friends on what's been going on. Todd is still working with the census bureau and finishing up school. He is looking forward to Christmas break, so he doesnt have to meet so many deadlines. I have been working retail this Christmas, and I have to say that I definately hate it, although am very grateful for the opportunity to help out our family. I also received a new calling for church as the Enrichment Counselor. I am very excited for this opportunity to serve, I've had this calling before so it's not too overwhelming...yet. Mackenzie was hired at UVU and will be starting school there this January, she is SO excited to not have to work at the mall anymore and to start "learning" again. Austin loves high school (that's so wierd) and has been excelling at the drums with the bag pipe band. And has quite a few girls that he "chats" with, not quite sure how I feel about that. LOL! Cameron is doing well in school and has started a new interest in cup stacking, he really has enjoyed it.

My dad and step-mom, Trina, came for Thanksgiving. It was SO nice to have our family with us. It was the first time we had family over for the holiday since Todd joined the Army in 2001...definately long overdue. We also had Todd's cousin Rick and his family over. We all ate too much and enjoyed movies, games and each other's company. I was fortunate enough to not have to work on Black Friday, so Trina and I went shopping. We had a great time and picked up Kenz from work and went to lunch at Red Robin. Yummm! The Sunday after Thanksgiving was Mackenzie's 20th birthday, it is so crazy that she is that old...it has hit me really wierd this year, being the mom of a 20 year old, I feel old now...yes, I'll say it "middle aged". *GASP* It's all good though, I'm still young at heart and that's what really matters. Kenz had some friends over for a movie night and they had pizza, cake and all those wonderful kinds of things. They played games and were obnoxiously loud, but we loved hearing the laughter of our "baby girl". I'm so grateful that we have been blessed with such a beautiful, kind and amazing young lady.

Some Japanese Culture

Man--I didn't realize how long it has been since I've posted last. Life gets so busy so fast and this week was SUPER busy! Our family had the opportunity to host a Japanese exchange student for a week through a company called Selnate and all I can say is that it was amazing! We picked up our exchange student, Hiroyuki on October 22 and while we were waiting in the BYU parking lot we were able to watch the BYU band practice for their Homecoming game--it was pretty exciting. After we met Hiro (is what he wanted us to call him) we took him home for his first American dinner--we went pretty easy on him, just some grilled chicken, rice and a salad, to which he LOVED Ranch dressing! They dont have anything like it in Japan and needless to say he thought it was a real treat! Friday during the day, the group of boys went to a farm where Hiro for the first time ever saw cows, chickens and horses. He said he was definately not a cowboy. Haha! That night we just chilled out with a pizza and he wanted to watch Transformers. He was pretty tired from the time difference (15 hours ahead) and jet lag. Saturday we got up early and took Hiro fishing at Utah Lake and to a picnic at Bridal Veil Falls. He loves the outdoors, so this was definately one of his favorite outings. Sunday we took him to listen to the Mormon Tabernacle Choir sing at "Music and the Spoken Word". The choir sounded so beautiful--a little taste of what heaven will sound like. We then toured Temple Square. Hiro thought it was pretty amazing especially since we had a "cute" sister missionary from Japan as a tour guide. LOL! After we were finished, we went to our friend's, the Walker's house. They have been our dear friends for 20 years--and Nathan went on a mission to Japan, so he cooked us up some Gyoza (super yummy) and rice. The kids played and had a great time all night long. Hiro was shocked to see the boys come in with loads of wood to build a fire in the fireplace--we thought it was so funny that he was taking pictures of it. Monday night was family night and so we carved pumpkins--a first for Hiro and he thought it was totally gross that we scoop out pumpkin guts. He really enjoyed the end product though. :o) On Tuesday the YW/YM of our ward hosted a Halloween party for the Primary kids, so we took Hiro to Burger King for a "big American hamburger" that he wanted to try and then to set up for the carnival. Wednesday, the boys attended public school all day at local Jr. High Schools, Hiro said it was very busy and VERY noisy! He loved school lunch--which the boys thought was hilarious. We explained that Austin and Cam refuse to eat school lunches because they think its so bad. That night was a family dinner hosted by Selnate and we all enjoyed a slide show of the boys of pics all the families had sent in of the 274 boys that came. We also enjoyed the BYU Living Legends dancers--they were so fun to watch. Some of the boys danced traditional Japanese dances for us. Thursday was our sad day--we had to drop Hiro off at 6:00 am at BYU for their group to go to Zions National Park and then off to Disneyland. He was really looking forward to going but in a note that we found after he left he wrote, "I don't wanna leave here". (Yeah it made me teary eyed--shocking I know!) I received an email from Hiro's dad, Isao, yesterday stating that Hiro had gotten sick on the way to Disneyland and wasnt able to enjoy it--it made us all so sad for him. I guess he'll just have to come back and visit us again. Our family was so blessed to have such a sweet young man that fit so well with our family. We had such a great experience that we look forward to doing it again next year.

Fam Pics

So I have so much to tell and not enough time these days. Hopefully this weekend I will have a chance to sit and write a "real"blog. For now, check out our family pictures. We went to Idaho for a surprise 60th birthday party for my dad and had my friend, Randi do family pics for us. You can see a sneak peek at www.randidavies.com/blog. Scroll down until you find the "M" family. Yeah...she's that good! Thanks Randi!

New Provo Home!

So we finally made it to Utah. After almost 20 years of begging Todd to move here, he finally caved. Not really, we both feel that this is where we are supposed to be for now. We have been greeted by the kindest people in our neighborhood. Cameron and I arrived here first and about 30 minutes later Todd and the other kids pulled up with our new bishop right behind. (It cracked me up!) And not long after that, about 8 neighborhood kids came over and introduced themselves to the boys--did I mention it was 11:00pm? I guess there is a thing here in Utah called "Night Games" where the kids go from yard to yard and play "old school" games like: "Over the Ball", "Tag" ride their bikes orRipSticks around. I know--shocking they don't just play video games all night! Mackenzie is adjusting well too. She's already gone camping with the singles' ward, swimming with some friends and just hanging out with Natalie watching movies. She even met up with a friend from CO who is here going to BYU and watch Harry Potter at 6:30 in the AM! Everything is going well--definately stressful moving, but we truly feel blessed to have this opportunity and we feel the Lord's hand guiding us here. Here are some pictures of our new home. We miss and love all of you!

Life Changes

Well...so much has happened to our family since our last post. Some bad and some good. But, isn't that life? I love the quote, "Your happiness is 10% circumstance and 90% attitude". On May 26th Todd came home from work early and told me he lost his job. (I find it interesting how the Spirit helps you through situations like this.) Normally I would have completely freaked and lost it, but surprisingly, I felt a calm come over me and I knew without a doubt that our family would be taken care of. I didn't know when or how, just that if we endured this trial and have faith, He will take care of us. It has been 3 weeks since Todd lost his job and we have already found a new one--in UTAH! Todd and I both for the past few months have felt a prompting that we were supposed to move there but both of us had no desire to pack up our family and leave Colorado. (I guess Heavenly Father knows we are both stubborn so he hit us upside the head--in a loving way of course.) A friend of ours in Utah has been telling Todd to apply at the company he works for for years, and he has a couple of times with nothing but a t-shirt and a thank you for your interest in our company letter. Todd felt inspired to call our friend, Nathan and ask if the company was hiring. He told Todd, "yes" and to email him Todd's resume. Nathan was kind enough to hand deliver it to the hiring manager of the department that was hiring. We are so blessed to have great friends that will help in time of need! We also have been blessed to find a beautiful home in Provo, only 7 miles from where he'll work. We are so excited to be closer to family and friends that we consider family. I am so thankful to a loving Heavenly Father who takes care of us and knows our every need. I have learned alot about myself over the last few weeks and as hard as it is am grateful for trials in my life that teach me to trust in Him.

Family, Friends and the Oregon Coast

I had such an amazing week this past week being able to take a "Just Me" vacation to Portland OR and the Oregon Coast to visit my brother and his wife and my dear friends, the Nielsons. My wonderful husband agreed to taking on the "Mom" responsibilities while I took time just for myself. (How do I repay him for such a selfish thing?) Anywhooo--it was a crazy fun whirlwind week--I got to Portland late last Wednesday so we didnt do much other than hit the drive thru at Wendy's and stayed up way too late to chat with my brother, Sam and his wife Amy Lynn. The next day they had to go to work so I spent the day with my friend, Sandy. We just drove all over and enjoyed lunch together.That night my dad and his wife, Trina and her granddaughter, Natalee came in. Friday we all drove to Tillamook and enjoyed the "squeaky cheese" we drove up the Oregon Coast and checked out the beach towns. It is so beautiful there. Saturday Sam and Amy and I went to the Portland Rose Gardens, drove into Oregon City and ate at a great little pizza place (so yummy). On Sunday, we went to Multnomah Falls and hiked to the top. (Not that I didn't know this already--but--I am SOOO out of shape. I was sure that my brother was trying to get back for all the horrible things I did to him growing up.)After that I met up with Sandy to hang out with her and her family the rest of my stay. It was so nice on Sunday to go and enjoy a dinner with them and just chat. Monday we went shopping (nothing too exciting) and Tuesday we went to the coast again. Wednesday it was time to come home, even though I had a great time, I was exhausted and ready to come home to my family. It is always so exciting to leave and go away on a trip--but truly-- "THERE IS NO PLACE LIKE HOME"!

Prayer = Blessings

John 14:14 "If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it." John 14:18 "I will not leave you comofrtless: I will come to you." It is so true that if we search the scriptures, we can find the answers to all of our prayers. I feel so blessed in knowing that I AM A DAUGHTER OF GOD. I have been praying for so long that I would find something where I feel like my own entity and yet be able to be at home for my kids when they need me. This week that prayer has been answered. A few years ago I started workng for a great orthodontist here in the Springs that worked out of a Pediatric dental office one day a week. This past weekend there was an ad for a part time front office job--not realizing it was the office where I had once worked. I received an email saying that they would like to interview me this Friday--woohoo! I am excited about the chance to work a few hours a day a couple days a week and be able to get out of the house and yet have most of my attention to my number one job--being a MOM! I know that Heavenly Father wants to bless us and if it is for the better, it will happen. Even though some people couldn't understand why I would quit my full time job at the school, our family knew that we would be blessed. I knew that I would not be left comfortless. I feel so fortunate that my kids are able to see that through faith their prayers will be answered.

Learning to Be a Better Me.

So, here we go...again. I had started a blog in January, thinking that I would write updates every couple of weeks, so that our family and friends that live far away would be able to keep up with our crazy busy lives. Needess to say I wrote a blog once during Christmas vacation and during Spring Break decided to leave the blog world. I'm always saying how busy I am and I just can't handle one more thing, so why would I stress myself out with a blog? Yet, here I am AGAIN! I have reduced my schedule though and am loving being a stay-at-home mom once again. I love being there when they get home from school. And surprisingly, they love it too. Who knew teenaged boys still wanted their mom home? Or is it the chocolate chip cookies that they will come home to? Don't answer that, I'm sure deep down I know. :) I am so grateful to my loving husband that has supported me in decluttering my schedule. I quit my job at the school (I know people gasp when I say that, especially in this economy, but what good is having a job when you spend all your money on eating out because you're so thrashed at the end of the day to even fix a box of mac n cheese?) and was released from my calling. (Nursery--need I say more?) I have been filling up my spiritual cup during these last few weeks and it has been rewarding beyond words! I feel better than I have in a long time and I am so grateful for the gospel and my family. Friday night, I was able to go to dinner at On the Border with my Visiting Teachers and go to Women's Conference where we were able to listen to Sister Julie B. Beck. It was so beautiful to be there with so many other sisters and to listen to her. Sister Beck reminded us that we are daughter of God! To have more faith and that we have heavenly miracles and heavenly angels attending us. Why is it so easy to forget that? She also talked about different schedules in a mom's day and that the afternoon schedule is the most important. It's when we are all the most tired and yet also the most teachable. She told us to make our dinner tables our "HOLY TABLE". We have always had dinner at the table and we talk about the good in our day, I hope that my children know that I have tried to make our family table a holy table. My favorite words of conference: "You are better than you think you are, YOU ARE GOOD!
